-
The itinerary is an invitation to the reader to explore Penafiel through the eyes of Penafiel's authors, but also from the many writers who have chosen to live here or who have passed through here. Each curious and amusing episode in this editorial object is also a lead-off to learn more about Portuguese Literature.

On the death of the sister of the poet Joaquim Araújo (1858 - 1917), Zara Araújo (1864 - 1879), Antero de Quental (1842 - 1891) wrote a famous poem-epitaph still engraved on her tombstone. It is said to be, according to Ferreira de Brito, one of the most translated Portuguese poems in the world (over 50 languages). Zara Araújo, who died at the young age of fifteen, is buried at the Prado Repouso Cemetery in Porto.

-
Happy are those who pass midst sorrow's care
Or worldly passions which tumultuous rave,
Unconscious as the flower which scents the air,
And the light as shadows floating on the wave.
-
Thy life was but a dream, as undefined -
Though vague, it was sweet, transparent as the dawn.
Awakened, - thou hast smiled, - then through thy mind
Swiftly the dream's continuous course was borne.

Ruben A. (1920 - 1975)
-
More than a man from Porto, Ruben A. is a citizen of the world. His passage through Penafiel takes place at a decisive time of personal development, during the arduous military instruction, which he later reflects on, stating: "In the barracks' parade, the entangled rifles appeared as question marks twisted together. (...) Then came the exercises in the field. I would broaden my horizon, eat grapes from few trellises that seemed more like forbidden fruit at my hands, and I would fall in line, eyes fixated on the certain shades of iron-blue that licked the remains of sulphate on the granite supports, as well as the twisted trunks in the vines. The herb soil grew bigger, right there, misaligned, and I misaligned in line".
